History

Hijama is an ancient therapeutic cure for the mind and body dating back as old as 1400 years ago, during the advent of Islam in Saudi Arabia.

The journey of Hakima’s Hijama

When Manager and Certified Hijama Practitioner Moqadisa, first heard of hijama as a medical treatment that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to practise on himself, she was fascinated. She then learned that hijama (also known as wet cupping), was a recommendation by the Angels to the Prophet (peace be upon him) as he was ascending between the heavens during the Night Journey. This further intrigued Moqadisa to find out exactly what hijama is, and to try this ancient sunnah (teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) method on herself.

That journey took Moqadisa to get her qualifications from the Uk and also travel to Malaysia to further her training, knowledge and understanding of Hijama.

The difficulty for Moqadisa however was to find a qualified female that practises and performs hijama in Perth. There were a few, however it was difficult finding a practitioner that was readily available to take on clients as most were working part time or did not have a clinic, and had to treat clients at their house. Moqadisa then saw this as an opportunity for her to fill the gap in a niche market, especially having had experience of being a hijama client herself, and knowing how beneficial this holistic treatment is. Whilst Hijama is not widely known in the western world, Moqadisa feels the need to share and educate as many people on this safe and holistic method of treatment, and revive the forgotten sunnah (teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) that was once recommended to the Prophet by the Angels.

Sunnah Days…

Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) advocated that hijama should be practiced at certain times because it depends a lot on the moon. The moon has a gravitational pull on Earth resulting in a huge impact upon all life forms which includes human beings, animals, fish, plants and water bodies. It causes fluids to rise at particular times during the monthly lunar cycle. Therefore, this also includes a change in the human body.  Hence it is recommended to perform hijama at certain times. This all has to do with gravitational pull and the levels of the four fluid humors (black & yellow bile, blood and phlegm) and water inside the human body at certain times of the month. Just as the moon affects the tide of the ocean, it also affects the human body.

According to Ibn Sina’s research, the four humors inside the human body were on the rise and in a state of agitation during the full moon. The full moon pulls the blood towards the skull during the full moon. As the moon begins to wane in the third week of the month, the fluids begin to recline in the body. The residue that is left over in the upper parts of the body is septic and should be removed through hijama, in order to cleanse the blood and cardio-vascular system.
